Frequently Asked Questions

Is it normal to lose hair every day?

Yes. Most people naturally shed around 50–100 hairs each day as part of the normal hair growth cycle. Increased shedding over several weeks, noticeable thinning, or accompanying scalp symptoms may warrant a closer evaluation.

How do I know if my hair shedding is normal?

If you're seeing more hair than usual in the shower, your brush, or your ponytail feels noticeably thinner, it may be helpful to have your hair and scalp assessed. Many causes of increased shedding are temporary, while others benefit from earlier attention.

What causes hair thinning or shedding?

Hair thinning or shedding can occur for many different reasons. It may be related to stress, hormones, nutrition, scalp health, medications, illness, genetics, or other changes happening in the body.

Because there isn't just one cause, understanding your individual situation is the first step toward choosing the most appropriate next step.

What happens during a hair & scalp assessment?

Your visit includes a discussion of your concerns and history, digital photography and microscopic scalp imaging, and a personalized review of possible contributing factors. You'll leave with recommendations for appropriate next steps and home care based on your individual situation. Most appointments take about one hour.

Do I need a referral?

No. Appointments can be scheduled directly.

Do you work with both women and men?

Yes. Hair thinning and scalp concerns can affect anyone. Tri-City Hair Care provides private hair & scalp assessments for women and men experiencing hair thinning, increased shedding, scalp discomfort, or other hair and scalp concerns. Each assessment is personalized to your individual history, concerns, and goals.

Can you diagnose medical conditions?

No. Tri-City Hair Care provides cosmetic hair and scalp assessments within the scope of cosmetology and trichology education. If findings suggest a medical condition, you may be encouraged to follow up with your primary care provider or dermatologist.

Will I be told what products to buy?

Recommendations are personalized based on your concerns and goals. If a product may be helpful, I'll explain why and discuss your options. There is never any obligation to purchase products.

What if my hair loss might be medical?

If your history or findings suggest that a medical evaluation would be appropriate, I'll explain why and encourage you to follow up with your primary care provider or dermatologist. My goal is to help you understand your hair and scalp while working within the scope of cosmetology and trichology education.
